Hampden Road

ZRP were commissioned to undertake a design and build project to create a rear extension to a house in Tottenham.

The extension, built almost entirely from timber, is super insulated. Orientated to the south, the extension benefits from the sun all day through its glazed rear elevation and large 1.5×1.5m rooflight that lets light into the main house.

The extension benefits from passive solar gain during the winter, where the sun heats up the polished concrete floor which dissipates the warmth throughout the day. In summer, the rear elevation opens up completely to allow a breeze to circulate through the house and, during the remainder of the year, the extension requires limited additional heating.
